MAHJONG TILES

This set of mahjong tiles is handcrafted to reify my memories of playing this traditional Chinese pastime with family and friends. Reflecting upon the experience of being an American-born child of Hong Kong immigrants, Mahjong Tiles captures the vulnerability in the budding growth of an ethnic subculture that bridges the two disparate cultures. Each tile is created individually with care and unique in form, but never resembling the exact shape and size of the original game pieces.
